UPCOMING EVENT: BARKS IN THE
PARK
Barks in the Park, an outdoor event with activities for all dogs and their human companions, will be held Saturday, May 20, 2006 beginning at 1 pm, in the lovely East Park section of Mercer County Park, West Windsor, New Jersey. The featured activity of the afternoon will be a “Poker Walk” in which participants pick a card at each of five tables set up along the trail. The best hand from each deck of cards will win a prize!
In addition to the Poker Walk, the official AKC Canine Good Citizens Test will be given throughout the afternoon. And handlers will work with their dogs to demonstrate canine agility, obedience and police work. Food and beverages for dogs and people will be available at the event. The Dalmatian Club of Central New Jersey, the event’s sponsor, welcomes all breeds to this exciting event!
Proceeds of the event will benefit two organizations: the Dalmatian Club of American Foundation, funding canine medical research, and Popcorn Park Zoo. Popcorn Park Zoo is a licensed refuge established in 1977 for wildlife that were sick, elderly, abandoned, abused, or injured, and which could no longer survive in their natural habitat. The Zoo includes exotic and domestic animals which were exploited or illegally owned. Over 200 of these animals and birds currently live in spacious surroundings at the Zoo in Forked River, NJ.
Donations of money are appreciated to support these worthy causes. In addition, for those who don’t know what to do with all those extra leashes, collars, dog beds, blankets, toys, food, crates, etc., the Dalmatian Club will be collecting new and used dog supplies for distribution to the Zoo and its four affiliated animal shelters.
The entry fee to participate in the Poker Walk is $10 per dog. There is also a separate fee for the Canine Good Citizens Test. For more information about the event contact Jan Heppe at JanHeppe@aol.com or at (908) 492-1920.
